Dag-Rune ZThe mini-guard at the mini-ATM Feeling safer already. The geckos and lizzards are everywhere in Cambodia. Mostly useful animals, since they hunt and eat insects, mosquitoes included. Unfortunately they also crap like troopers. Cannot have it all, I guess. Dag-Rune ZTop gold The pagoda complex Wat Sampeou/Sompov at the top of Phnom Sampeou, "Ship mountain", outside Battambang is a concentrated area of temples and variations. With a fantastic view to the surrounding Cambodian countryside. Walk up, or get a driver. It is worth it. But bevare of the monkeys, they are overly friendly because they expect to get, or steal, food. At the top of the stairs for those who decide to walk up, you are greeted with this gate and the golden lotus leaf with a wanderer in center. The caves on this and the other small mountain hills in this cluster carry with it stories of tradition, happiness and deep tragedy. It is worth spending some time walking these hills. And by sunset, you should take a seat at the foot of the hills, near the bat cave. There you can see thousands of bats leave for the nights hunt. It is a fantastic sight because of the amounts of hunting animals. Dag-Rune ZWhen you have temple and teeth Some of the temples and pagodas are marvels of intrinsic details, but sometimes the cohabitants are, too. The monkeys at most of these sites are peaceful, knowing they are safe and have access to food and water. But they are also nosy and cheeky, and any seasoned traveller know to keep their belongings, food and water well contained or hidden around these taily rascals. Even if they are small, they are strong and have sharp teeth. So there is no use picking a fight. Another thing is the small numbers of some of these monkey groups, causing some problems with inbreeding due to small gene pools. We are talking severe Habsburger jaw and bulbous lips, to use a European reference to tragedy and disaster when science is absent. I have observed this inbreeding problem decrease over the last few years, as the caretaking of these animals at these cultural heritage sites improves. But the monkeys also ad personality and scale to these photos. Dag-Rune ZGirls night out The Royal Square between the Royal Palace and the riverside where rivers Tonle Sap and Mekong meets are among the nicest public areas in the Cambodian Capital. The area is ordinarily bustling with people, both locals and tourists from early morning. In the late afternoon/early evening families arrive for picnic, and later in the evening young people join together for meals, drinks and friendly activities. Many of them arrives after the ordinary shops and daytime cafes are closed. Dag-Rune ZA spot to enjoy the slow, relaxing hours before sunset The riverside walk along the west side of Ton Le Sap river and east of Sisowath Quay blvd stretches nearly 4 kilometers. That is past the junction where Ton Le Sap joins the mighty Mekong river in front of the Royal Square and the Royal Palace. It is a nice walk, and deeply needed when the day is hot and the sun is beating down. There is always a cooling breeze there. And for people who learns and experience places and cities by walking, fresh, moving air is always welcome. In the evening, the riverside fills up by locals socializing, playing, exercising, eating, drinking, dating and selling. It is hard to say if it is more lively there than in the old town behind Sisowath Quay, or the heavy trafficked river filled with boats on the other side. PieRFête des Eaux en 2004 à <a href="https://diaspodon.fr/tags/Phnom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Phnom</a>-Penh, pour les courses de pirogues venues de tout le pays sur le <a href="https://diaspodon.fr/tags/M%C3%A9kong" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Mékong</a>. Certaines pirogues ont plus d'une centaine de rameurs et atteignent des vitesses impressionnantes. Cette fête en fin de saison sèche est destinée à inciter les esprits des eaux à faire pleuvoir, afin de permettre la culture du riz, essentielle à la vie cambodgienne.
