La Niña appeared in the eastern Pacific Ocean in early December 2024, after seven months of waiting. And will probably not stay long.
Stronger-than-usual trade winds push warm equatorial surface waters westward towards Asia and Australia, modifying the moisture content across the Pacific.

I've had the fortune to study with some of the greatest Geographers at both the University of Washington and at UCSB. While visiting the UCSB Geography dept website today, I came across the very sad news that Jeff Dozier is no longer with us. He was an amazing professor, and was able to describe really complex concepts. He also had a great sense of humor.

Jeff taught me why the sky is blue, mathmatically.
