@haitchfive<p>Even if it becomes repetitive after a while, you rarely see better character animation on the ZX Spectrum<br><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR2HA_w3Jtw" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=BR2HA_w3Jt</span><span class="invisible">w</span></a></p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/ZXSpectrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ZXSpectrum</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Spectrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Spectrum</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Speccy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Speccy</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a></p>

I did some programming in C on it while working on my masters degree. An educational program that I wrote was ported to it for use in schools; it was visually a bit primitive because no one had yet made a proper graphics editor.</p><p><a href="https://musician.social/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://musician.social/tags/Ontario" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ontario</span></a></p>
tom jennings<p>Has anyone given thought to a modern keyboard, and modern character set needs, with CP/M? I think the situation might be close to hopeless; the documentation states explicitly "strip off the 8th bit" eg. 0x7f, so 1968 ASCII it is, but having app subvert the BIOS is common.</p><p>Just thought I'd ask before I set the task aside. I'm using a USB keyboard and mapping scan codes straight up; I've done real keyboards with dead keys etc but not for a long time. And honestly don't relish coding it (though I could maybe do it not in the Z80).</p><p>But even 512 bytes for a keymap is pushing it. That's 1/128th of total RAM space.</p><p><a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/cpm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cpm</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a></p>

Pondering if I dare to put #Fortran into my CV. :blobcatthinking:

I can do some Fortran, partly because it keeps coming up in all sorts of #retrocomputing contexts, but, even with Ratfor enhancements, I don't consider it a well-designed or pleasant language, and I'm not sure I can see myself working at a place that deals in new Fortran code now that nice, human-friendly languages such as NumPy and APL have been invented. Besides, 21st century Fortran is a really weird language that doesn't even know what it wants to be when it grows up.

Today I finally replaced the drive belt of my new CPC 664. Half of the old belt fell out before I had opened the drive. The other half was still in the drive and a tiny bit was stuck to the metal. I had to scrape it off with a knife. But now the drive works perfectly. Hooray! Also all keys work without any problems.
The CPC is pretty dirty. I cleaned three keys for reference. I guess it will look quite okay when I'm done with it.
