Yesterday evening, there was a lot of excitement as a helicopter landed right next door.

The rescue helicopter was deployed due to a major traffic accident. Since it wasn't possible to land at the road intersection where the accident occurred, the pilot diverted to a nearby small meadow.

Another #repair. This time $80K #sar #drone that they do not sell a replacement antenna.

Prototyping was tedious since I could not fix my high temp filament layer adhesion problems. So even it is sub optimal this antenna is printed with PLA for mechanical strength.

The ongoing chaos in the USA is making search and rescue efforts more difficult. More subjects and some volunteers are going to be more likely to die as a result.

It has come to our attention that recent actions have caused the National Park Service fo rescind offered contracts for law enforcement and emergency medical services for this coming year in both Seasonal and Permanent positions. Also included was the firing of thousands of US Forest Service workers, some of whom work to prevent forest fires. The reduction in force of vital jobs in our National Parks and US Forests and other national lands from an already decreased number of employees will have a drastic effect on public safety. Besides having fewer responders and longer response times this puts the current responders at risk of injury from an increased burden of activity. The proposed reduction in staff at avalanche prediction centers also appear to have been done with little thought to the consequences to public safety. These forecasters help prevent injury and death in the snowy backcountry and are also integral to all teams attempting search and rescue in snow covered mountains. We are concerned for the public safety of our fellow Americans and feel like the proposed, ill-conceived cuts in staffing on our public lands and services will have significant detrimental effects on public safety.

We will continue to assist the federal Search and Rescue teams as we always have, but we feel that they are being severely limited in their ability to serve and protect our public.
