If you want to know why I love Tom Cox's writing so much, this is an excellent example of what he does. In a single piece, we get writing about place, about the act of writing, about people and folklore, all opening up windows on and avenues through a bigger, more expansive world of possibilities. It's delicious.

I am enjoying #TomCox's writing a lot recently.
This was a great post he made that made me smile today.
I really loved this book.
I bought it in 202 p and finally was in the right mindset to read it.
Who knew a guy talking about walking the British countryside in a book could be this interesting to read.
Need to pick up his other books.
I am nearing the end of this book yet do not want it to end. I am enjoying the writing style and story-telling style so much.
I need to read his other books.
I have started reading this book.
Bought it about 3 years back and am finally giving it a go.
I’m very excited about Tom Cox’s new book because I am only a little bit older than him and vividly remember the 1980s

Hilarious, poignant, brilliant piece by Tom Cox on Substack.
Darren the editor is my favourite. I’ve flown like that in dreams.
With surreal modern scarecrow photos.

What I read in 2022
I managed (more or less) 60 books last year. More or less because I had 10 pages left of my last read of the year as the calendar clicked over.
I had 16 five star reads. My favourites of these were #Villager by #TomCox, #ThirstySea by #EricaMou, #MuscleAndMouth by #LouiseFinnigan, #BreastsAndEggs by #MiekoKawakami, and the #ShortStory collection #TheBookOfRamallah from #CommaPress.
I am pleased to announce that the Ghosts and Scholars Book of Follies was my favourite short read of 2023

I didn't read enough novels to make a year's best pick super meaningful but I liked The Grimoire of the Four Impostors by #CoyHall and Villager by #TomCox.
One of my favourite #writers is @TomCox. I've pledged for each of the #books he's published via @Unbound and loved every one.
#TomCox puts lots of #writing on his website for free. Here's a piece from a few days ago about his chosen path as a #writer that I found interesting. If you're a #reader or a writer, you might find it interesting, too.

Currently reading The Villager by Tom Cox. Being a villager myself I’m enjoying the quirks of village life highlighted in the book, which to be honest I think is quite normal behaviour #currentlyreading #books #TomCox
@sodslawyer wow, that’s a new one on me. I’m reading a crazy book called #Villager by #TomCox, this music works well with the text.
I do wish this favourite writer was here on Mastodon I’m sure he would enjoy the company. #TomCox #Villager
Tom writes - “I've written something new today. It's about suffering a bit with the darkness at this time of year. It's also about the Cornish landscape, railways, a cat, the Kinks, Kool Keith and an owl. So, everything, really.
I'd be delighted if you gave it a read. “
