"When you enter a prompt in ChatGPT, it goes through thousands of calculations to figure out the best possible answer.  To keep the servers from overheating, they need water. Depending on where the data center is based, it uses a different amount of water. In West Des Moines, Microsoft uses 6% of the water. In Oregon, Google uses 25% of the water in their town. [Shakes a 16-oz water bottle]. Chat GPT uses this much water every time you 100-word email. So stop using it."

WhatTheyThinkIs AI Destroying the Planet? Is AI Destroying the Planet?

It really does look like when #DuckDuckGo added a second setting to its AI "Features", they turned the first setting back on for everyone who had turned it off. So check in duckduckgo.com/settings#aifeat if you're still have all that bullshit turned off.

Shame on DuckDuckGo for ramming this crap down our throats. Ethical search engine, my ass.

US Schools are opting out. My school is one of them.

But no one has been told opting out is an option.

You have to ask (and I've heard sometimes pressure) Turnitin to

And you should!

This is flawed snake oil! This is Sea Monkeys! They can't prove that it works. They are not letting you test it. They are forcing it on your school!

Countless educators stand against academic surveillance tech and Turnitin's new AI detection tool is an escalation. Turnitin is pivoting from a technology that encourages teachers to investigate sources to one that tells them to blindly believe their "state-of-the-art" black box.

Don't buy it. And come contract renewal, do not forget what they did.

Update on opting out of Turnitin's AI Writing Detection tool, which is scheduled to be forced upon customers on April 4th.

Some schools in the US and New Zealand have been allowed to opt out, but some are being told they can't. This is wrong! Every customer should be given the same right to choose.

Don't give up. Keep pushing. Escalate. Today, tomorrow, and Monday are the last working days before it is too late. Opting out is a form of protecting students. Keep pushing!
