As I dug through layers of functions, I suddenly realized — unlike the new generation of developers, I was grateful that I could actually understand my codebase. That’s when I started thinking more about Karpathy’s recent statements on vibe coding. For those who missed it, Andrej Karpathy recently shared his thoughts on what he calls “vibe coding” — essentially surrendering code comprehension to AI tools and hoping for the best. His exact words? “I ‘Accept All’ always, I don’t read the diffs anymore.” I have learnt a lot from Karpathy and use AI tools daily, but there’s a world of difference between augmenting your capabilities and completely surrendering your understanding.

Термин «вайб‑кодинг» в среде пользователей, хоть немного погруженных в тему ИИ, уже не нужно расшифровывать и пояснять. Кажется, людей, не использующих LLM для программирования становится все меньше и меньше.

Had a really good laugh with @hannah just now trying our hands at the clearly way superior & production ready act of #VibeCoding with #Codestral.

We told it to build a calculator in #Rust. After telling it to use an AST it looked promising, even adhering to order of operation (already better than MS Calc!).

Then we told it to add support for braces and it utterly and completely shat itself. Like, Mexican diet explosive diarrhea-style. 😂

Now everything is an invalid expression. #AI 👍

I feel like #vibecoding is a misnomer.

Vibe gives the impression that the whole thing is fun and chill. It's not. Sure, it saves you some typing, but when your AI starts randomly hallucinating the weirdest stuff, that's just infuriating.
