Back at the play centre garden today, where I removed the shade cloth off the 2 raised vegetable beds in the hope of some rain.
They are looking bare after the summer.
I did find some strawberry runners which I replanted in the barest one, ahead of further seeds and stuff next week.
The garden is now mature enough to provide some cuttings, seeds and runners, which makes me happy.

Just time for a quick look through photos from yesterday’s hike. Had to get out despite the cool winds to get my mind off the building Constitutional Crisis. Was looking for new arrivals of Northern Parula (have been reported) and Blue-grey Gnatcatcher. Was trying to work with a. Blue-grey when this Ruby-crowned Kinglet popped up and started singing and flaring its crest. Had a wonderful time whistling to it and having is sing back in response for about 5 minutes. Eased the day.
Heavy volunteer day today, and down one chainsaw with an oiler problem. The oilers on these battery models are tough to repair - basically take it completely apart, so we may have to use one of the gas models (ick) until we can do surgery (ick).

Today is a heavy volunteer work day again. We may, just may be able to finish the first phase of removal of the runaway wisteria infestation this morning. The area was originally a plant nursery for the City, with wisteria, honeysuckle (multiple varieties), privet, euonymus, cedars, red oak, … When the City abandoned the site, they let it go feral. The wisteria expanded to a wild area of ~5 acres(?) so dense you could not walk through there. It killed most of the trees in that block. We have reduced it by manually cutting it back to less than an acre through hard labor. Next phases would involve regular mowing, or other methods the property manager may choose.
