I recall that it was moving to a <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/flatpak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>flatpak</span></a> soon (or already has?) so maybe it's the time to give it a go. </p><p>I need to find a tutorial.</p>

David :debian: :golang: :java:<p>Ive been running <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Zed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zed</span></a> today on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> and wondering why it won’t auto update. The logs tell me it’s because rsync isn’t installed. It’s a simple fix:</p><p>$ sudo apt install rsync</p>
Janik :linux: :ansible: :bash:<p>In the past I already took a step back from AI integration, mainly because I was mor tabbing than writing code: <a href="https://janikvonrotz.ch/2025/01/27/work-with-llms-on-the-command-line/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">janikvonrotz.ch/2025/01/27/wor</span><span class="invisible">k-with-llms-on-the-command-line/</span></a> </p><p>To my surprise the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Zed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zed</span></a> team is well aware of this problem: <a href="https://zed.dev/blog/out-of-your-face-ai" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">zed.dev/blog/out-of-your-face-</span><span class="invisible">ai</span></a></p><p>What I also enjoy is that Zed does not mention any AI integration on the start window. The extension catalog seems to have the most important stuff. Git support is there and that is all I really need.</p>
Daniël Franke :panheart:<p>So, a few days of trying out <a href="https://social.ainmosni.eu/tags/zed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Zed</span></a> instead of <a href="https://social.ainmosni.eu/tags/visualstudiocode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VisualStudioCode</span></a>:</p><ul><li>God it's fast, but I guess that's to be expected when you have a native rust build.</li><li>Not as many extensions, but many things I used to need an extension for are just... built in.</li><li>AI stuff fully disappears when turned off.</li><li>Rust support is very good.</li><li>Haven't written go with it yet, so cant' say how it works there.</li><li>Inline error display is nice.</li><li>Can't use it to debug my code (yet) which is a feature I loved in VSCode.</li></ul><p>So far... quite a nice experience, and when they add debugging support, it'll be fully an upgrade for me.</p>
Cédric Delalande :ruby:<p><a href="https://ruby.social/tags/zed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zed</span></a> has been my daily driver for a week now, and apart from advanced features and a "navigate to test" I can cope without, there is no real reason for me to look back.</p><p>Emacs will remain my git frontend of choice. There is Lazygit, or Gitui, but Magit remains unbeatable, and 3-way merge is a breeze.</p>
