Arjan Jager"Hancock Tower” Exploring patterns and colors, much inspired by Ndebele art and Van Gogh colors. Years ago I was an intern in Lupane, a rural village in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe. The area is home of the Ndebele people, perhaps the kindest people in the world. They gave me a lot. Through them I also learned about the Southern Ndebele people (in South Africa) and Esther Mahlangu in particular and her beautiful paintings. Have a look here ➡️ Estherm Mahlangu. While sketching one evening I thought the cross-bracing of the Hancock Tower here in Chicago has a somewhat similar pattern to Ndebele art and so I started exploring color combinations. Lots of color combinations. I finally decided to settle with a color pattern inspired by some of Van Gogh's color combinations that I enjoy a lot - fresh blue, yellow and orange. So all together a fusion of where I am from, where I have lived for a while and where I live now. cetanSpent an hour this morning going through my closet and figuring out what clothes can be donated and what clothes need to be discarded.
