Thank you to the #ADHD, #Dyslexic and #VisionImpaired people here on mastadon who asked for audiobooks of my writings. The more people tell me their access needs, the better position I am in to encourage/ convince my publishers to make my work #Accessible.

Delighted my latest publisher agreed to make an #Audiobook of Wired Our Own Way; An Anthology of #Autistic Irish voices, which will be released tomorrow. Not sure all the platforms it will be on yet.

I need to talk to whoever designed this nightmare. This is #dyslexic hell. The decorative font is around 9pt. And those margins. Why? The sepia photos are contemporary, taken by the author and made to look ‘old’. No captions for context. What is this, 1993? This book was published 10 yrs ago. All that work-travel, research & photography made totally inaccessible by bad design. The book is Empire of Death by Paul Koudounaris, Thames & Hudson.

I'm currently messing with my fonts in #Obsidian. I can't decide whether I prefer Atkinson Hyperlegible Next or OpenDyslexic Nerd. (The rest of the interface is Hyperlegible Next.)

I'm sticking with JetBrainsMono Nerd for monospace text for now, but I'm considering trying Hyperlegible Mono.

I'm not diagnosed #dyslexic (my spelling and grammar are fine, and I can spot a misplaced apostrophe from 100 paces), but I might have #Irlens. And I certainly have other bouncy brain features.

Just trying to create a catch-all post for any other lost dyslexics struggling to find the correct spelling of dyslexic because of their dyslexia preventing them from finding other folks sharing their struggle with dyslexia. 🤷‍♀️

The correct spelling: #dyslexia #dyslexic

Additional suggestions welcome.

#WritersCoffeeClub How do you format your drafts? Is it the same as the final manuscript?

I write in big fat open dyslexic font. White letters on black background. Which is obviously not the final manuscript, but perhaps I'll format one specifically with dyslexia in mind one day.

opendyslexic.org/

opendyslexic.orgOpenDyslexicOpenDyslexic is a typeface designed against some common symptoms of dyslexia.

if I've got 34/37 of the common traits of dyslexia, am I dyslexic??? (been wondering for years but I've never been tested. I always just write everything off as me being stupid or tired when I experience the symptom's. but I always wonder if it might be that I am dyslexic and just don't know? idk)

@mick I'm enjoying my Boox Note Air 4c e-ink tablet for real-time notetaking and also thinking-on-paper. Convert hand scrawl to text surprisingly good. Good price, no subscription needed for cloud sync, decent built-in software, Android so I can use Play store to put familiar tools on it 👍

Battery life is meh, but good enuf.
Stylus feels like paper ... but nib wears fast & replacements are not cheap.
Overall: a keeper.

Still learning how to work smoothly with it. A helpful took for #dyslexic.

I wish I had been taught to write properly when I was young. For some reason, I can easily paint and design letters, but writing like this is always a struggle. I'm trying to shake my embarrassment a bit here...

I like this conversation poem with Hekate, though. After some rough parts in life, my voice has diminished a lot. I'm asking her to guide me in reclaiming it.
