Etwas irritiert gewesen, das Hossenfelder mit Alexa-mäßigen Stimme Deutsch redete. Hab ich das bei YouTube übersehen oder ist das ein App-Feature? nun sind es schon zwei Amazon-Fire-TV Geräte, die hier ausgemustert rumliegen.

eines ca. 11 Jahre alt, ein Fire-TV Kasterl der zweiten Generation (glaube ich, noch mit LAN-Buchse), und ein ca. 9 oder 8 Jahre alter TV-Stick.

Ob das noch lohnt, die zu Jailbreaken und ein natives #Android oder anderes #Linux drauf zu packen? #amazon #firetv

it seems like those two domains, that are disabled in the screenshot, are the main sources that the fireTV checks at boot to ensure that it is connected to the internet.

If they are blocked, it will assume that it is disconnected and won't let you use any apps (there is a workaround going through Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, but its not convenient)

Just wondering if the responses of those sources could be mocked locally 😆

This is what an afternoon in a neurodivergent life can look like. If today wasn't a public holiday, I'd probably get stressed about it at some point, but today I can fully enjoy being neurodivergent:

Was watching a TV show on my laptop. Episode ended with a cliffhanger and just one more episode left. "OK I have to see the finale NOW, but I'll watch it on the TV instead of the laptop".
So I put on the TV and the asshole-fireTV stick wants to update itself. So I decide I want to figure out how to beat the #fireTV stick. I want to try if I can somehow block it's internet connection and still use the #jellyfin app.
So I get my laptop again to check my #pihole settings to see the requests made by the fireTV stick. However, I accidentally click the wrong bookmark so it takes me to the #Fritzbox settings instead. I remember now that I wanted to set up guest WiFi sometime soon. So I proceed and set that up and download the QR code to my phone. The next thing I know is that I'm remembering the melody of a song and decide that I want to try it on guitar because I haven't tried it before. So I put away the laptop and get the guitar. I try a few times, then look up guitar-tabs. I notice that it isn't hard at all, so I feel motivated to play along. So I tune my guitar correctly, switch on the amp and give it a few tries. I end up spending more than an hour playing along to the song 🥰 Then I create a quick phone recording of me playing parts of the song and send it to a friend on Signal "lol guess the song, its from 2011"
Since the phone is now in my hand, might as well check Tusky...🤣

I feel really happy, accomplished and calm (guitar and also sports have this effect when being neurodivergent) so I can now trace the breadcrumbs and do the things that I had left undone, hours ago 😂 the fireTV stick and the final episode of that TV show 😂

maybe I should just watch the show and forget about the fireTV stick. I might 🪓 that piece of trash sooner or later and replace it with a #raspberrypi 😆

By year's end Amazon could release its first smart TV powered by the Linux-based Vega OS already used for some Echo devices rather than the Android-based Fire OS that it's used up until now. Die ZDF-Mediathek mag auf meinem 11 Jahre alten Fire-TV nicht mehr laufen. Entschlüsselung von VOX und RTL funktioniert auch nicht mehr.

Da ich keine Amazon -TV mehr kaufen möchte: gibt es einen empfehlenswerten TV-Stick, auf dem die ganzen Streamingdienste laufen, die Mediatheken, das auch Endverbraucher-Nutzbar ist (also ohne Sideloading oder sowas)? Was ist da empfehlenswert?

Gibt es für den Stick (2. Gen) noch eine Möglichkeit Amazon zu streamen ? Der Support ist Ende 2024 ausgelaufen und funktioniert nicht mehr . Ist das jetzt echt Elektroschrott ?

Tolle neue Welt: Das #ZDF hat mit seinem großen #Mediathek-Update mal eben meinen #FireTV rausgekegelt. Die Kinder sind begeistert, dass sie jetzt kein Löwenzahn mehr gucken können.

Klar, das Android 6 da drauf ist nicht mehr das neuste. Aber es funktionierte halt alles noch super! Und im Gegensatz zum Smartphone ist Sicherheit da auch nicht so wichtig dass nur deswegen ein neues her müsste.

Aber dank ZDF darf ich jetzt noch mehr E-Schrott produzieren... 🤬

Is there a way to block a fireTV's access to the internet without rendering it useless?

I would like to cut it off the internet so that it doesn't "do random shit" and also doesn't update stuff and become slow over time.

I'm using it with local resources, so in theory it shouldn't require internet.

However, if I block it via Fritzbox dashboard, then the fire TV stick doesn't show me any of the installed apps and asks for internet access lol

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if this device was designed in a way that it would only work when it can report to homebase lol
