The £3.4m Prudhoe Street #Metro junction replacement project in #Newcastle has won the Outstanding Project of the Year (under £20m) at the Spotlight Rail Awards, marking its second award. The project, completed in just two weekends, was carried out by #Nexus and delivery partner Smarttrax Rail. The works replaced Metro's busiest junction, ensuring minimal disruption with two weekend closures. The complex project involved pumping wet concrete down to the tunnel floor, future-proofing Metro infrastructure for years. The project previously won Project of the Year at the Global Light Rail Awards. The renewal completes the track replacement from #Jesmond to #Gateshead.

Awww. Just noticed all the ramshackle pigeon lofts that were beside the railway line heading west out of Newcastle via Gateshead have gone. I'm not a pigeon person, but it feels like a bit of local heritage and culture has been lost.

Mark, 46, from Hebburn, South #Tyneside, enjoys his unique role, often surprising people when they learn it’s him behind the announcements. He’s excited to voice the new Metro #trains, noting the impressive #technology. Mark's career started in local radio, later branching into ads for major artists like Tom Jones and Robbie Williams. Voiceovers run in the family, with his wife, Amanda, also a voiceover artist, and his son, William, even nominated for a voiceover award.

Once upon a time, someone sat down a drew up the original concept of this building, then the architects got to work, designing and scaling it up, finally, the construction begins and it all comes together. The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly Sage) at Gateshead, is one amazing building.
