Today, the third day of the 2nd month ("waishaakha") in the #Hindu #lunar year, is "akshaya triteeya", the day of "undiminishing returns".

The day is associated with many mythological events, but these days people make new investments and buy new things. Gold retailers in particular love the day. 🪙 📈

In #Sanskrit:
- akshaya (अक्षय) means undiminishing, which is the opposite of "kshaya"
- triteeya (तृतीय) means third used here to mean the third day

#Trivia: akshaya is also a gender-neutral name for people and businesses. Isn't a popular name and is more often used for boys.

April 30, 2025: Weighing Krishna with gold*. ⚖️

On account of "akshaya tadige".

*Make believe: The idol can't be weighed because it is permanently installed; can't be moved.

April 27, 2025: Delight of wraja (the town/region)
- wrajaranjanakrishna (ವ್ರಜರಂಜನಕೃಷ್ಣ)

wraja has other meanings including cows and cowsheds. The town wraja was probably named so for being a place with many cows, cowsheds, and such.

I'm a #Sanskrit novice but the linked post triggered thoughts about some interesting words: 🤓

- haaree (हारी): one wearing haara (हार a long draping necklace garland)
- hari (हरि): yellowish or greenish color
- ari (अरि): enemy (and other things)

There's also a homonym "hari" which means "one who removes". It is commonly used as an epithet of the #Hindu god wishnu. One should/could say what is removed, but it is assumed wishnu ends something undesirable for his devotee, usually obstacles to salvation.

#Trivia: hari is one of 24 epithets of wishnu, and is depicted with a specific icon related to how he holds (some of) his weapons. That's for a rainy day. 😀

April 25, 2025: Red lotus (feminine, because Friday) with a pumpkin-shaped crown
- kooshmaanda kireetinee kumudinee (ಕೂಷ್ಮಾಂಡ ಕಿರೀಟಿನೀ ಕುಮುದಿನೀ)

(kumuda and kumudinee have multiple lotus-related meanings. Red lotus is apt due to the outfit.)
