The operators of electric grids in #NY & #NewEngland say they are still unsure whether the #tariffs apply to #electricity imports from #Canada, but they have filed plans w/ federal regulators to collect duties if they are ordered to do so. The 2 regions receive large amounts of #power from #hydroelectric #dams in Ontario & Quebec, & any tariffs would likely cause electricity bills to go up for households & businesses.

While some of those funds were earmarked to prop up #RenewableEnergy, at least $4B was set aside to protect the flow of the #ColoradoRiver, which supplies about 40M people w/ #DrinkingWater, is the foundation for a massive #agriculture #economy across the Southwest, & generates significant #hydroelectric power.

We would frequently find places to pull over and go for a walk while in Scotland in 2010 just to see if there were any sights worth photographing. There almost always was. After a day of visiting some castles in the Galloway region we were heading back towards the inn we were staying at when we headed along a random road in the woods and eventually found ourselves with some lovely views of one of the dams of the Galloway Hydroelectric Power Scheme nestled in the middle of nature's majesty.

It's a bright, sunny day with mostly clear blue sky visible in the distance. We're standing beside a narrow, shallow stream that's passing through the arch under an old stone bridge crossing it, its sides awash with colour from heather and other plants; a few ferns poke up between a carpet of soft purples. Behind the vibrant bridge, either side of the stream tall evergreens grow with the tops of those on the right glowing gold-green in the sunlight in contrast to the dark shade of those on the left. In the gap between the trees up ahead there is a high, wide concrete dam. A thick central slope of concrete leads to a short tower on top, but either side water is cascading down the dam's side, part of a hydroelectric power system.

The day before our flight out of #Launceston we walked up the South Esk river to the Duck Reach #Hydroelectric Power Station.

Has a super interesting history and an additional #bridge and rope pulleys that aided in the build and reconstruction after flooding. 🤓
