These creatures are made with an IFS which transform one arc into several connected arcs (specifically 1/6 of circumference, which gives more possibilities than other fractions). I show the results of just two iterations for several decompositions, more produces less aesthetic outcomes, and even more the result is indistinguishable from usual fractals. In this post the shapes are derived from a full circumference, next post will include other outcomes derived from other initial shapes (composed by sixths of circumferences).

📖 Just finished "The Body Keeps The Score." Not casual reading—it’s dense, clinical, and packed with insight—but I incorporated a format-switch between physical book and audiobook. It dives deep into how trauma reshapes the brain and nervous system, affecting how we feel, move, and relate. Therapy isn’t just about talking—it’s about retraining the body with EMDR, neurofeedback, movement, and even #IFS.

📖 Tried to borrow "No Bad Parts" by Richard Schwartz, but it was waitlisted everywhere—locally & even in Chicago’s library system. I gave in & bought the ebook.

The book introduces #IFS (Internal Family Systems), where we all have “Parts” inside us led by a calm, compassionate “Self.” It’s a popular model, but I didn’t connect with it. My perfectionism isn’t a “Part” I can reason with—it’s just… me.

2hago 15.03 GMT Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies thinktank, told the World at One that welfare cuts (see 9.23am) would have to be “radical” to have a significant impact on the public finances. He said spending on health-related benefits has increased to an “absolutely extraordinary degree” over recent years. He went on: 44 The potential savings are quite large, because, of course, we’re looking at savings relative to what’s currently projected, and current projections are for continued, fast increases in the amount we’re spending. But you’re only going to achieve significant or noticeable savings, you’re only going to persuade the OBR [Office for Budget Responsibility], if you’re going to do something really quite radical. Like, for example, simply making people with certain types of conditions or certain levels of illness not eligible for these benefits. Certainly tinkering with them is not going to do the job.

There are a quite a lot of weather companies and even national weather services around the world that depend on the freely and reliably available global model data from the US NWS.

There is now a real risk that this access will be shut off or made unaffordable.

I really do hope that @ECMWF is thinking about this and considering to finally make their model data freely available for at least non-member state weather services - in particular in the global south.

IMO the model data in full should be free for everyone (like the US data has been for decades) since it is tax payer funded and would allow weather companies around the world to run their own models and innovate products and services.

I've always found it ironic that the US is so much more generous with their data than the "socialist" Europeans are.
