GCN · Cork City Council passes first motion tackling misinformation following Belong To campaignThe motion was brought to Cork City Council by Cllr Pádraig Rice, following a pledge he made to Belong To's #CheckTheFacts campaign.

Thank you, everyone who put your trust in me again to represent you in the North East ward.

After #LE24, my colleagues, Dan Boyle and Honoré Kamegni, were elected Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork — and a new progressive alliance is the second-largest grouping on #CorkCC.

In Ireland, we don’t vote on things like District Sewage Manager, and there are different regulations on political spending, so it couldn’t transfer directly.

With how went and is going, and with a general election in the next ~9 months, I’m now very curious about where and how it may be possible to do moneyball for Irish elections.

Could some smart canvassing efforts or campaign donations means of keeping far-right parties down and boosting the left?

Anyway I guess I should be more worried about the 44,000 people in Ireland South who voted for out and out fascists, including 25,000 for Derek Blighe. #EU24 #EP24

We can't let the local election results lull us into a false sense of security that fascism is not on the rise here. It very clearly is and it is having a worrying impact on more centrist discourse. #LE24

My last toots regarding #MNCC #LE24 (for now)

Barely any change (party wise) in Monaghan. Lost 1 Ind for 1 FG.

I am _happy_ that Pauric Clerkin (FG) who was in school with me got elected. Not a fan of the party though.

Nothing will ultimately change as a result of this weekend.

Just call the general election now and put us out of our misery.

Independents:
John Lyons (ex PBP)
Vincent Jackson
Gavin Pepper (anti-immigrant)
Cieran Perry (ex Working Class Action)
Barry Heneghan
Christy Burke (ex SF)
Malachy Steenson (anti-immigrant)
Nial Ring (ex FF)
Mannix Flynn

Actually not as right wing as I thought - Lyons, Jackson, Perry and Heneghan would all be left of centre.

Final seat count in Dublin City Council - SocDems doubling their seats and Greens holding most of theirs is a good result for sensible, sustainable transport plans. Labour has lost seats but there are some good pro-Active Travel councillors there too. #LE24 #Dublin

If you count Sinn Féin as "left", the council is very definitely leaning to the left, despite the handful of ethno-nationalists elected. I need to have a closer look at the Indos but I think most are right leaning. #LE24 #Dublin
