I decided to take matters into my own hands and turn my idle workstation into a self-hosted photo album. The result? A private, accessible online gallery where we can relive our memories without worrying about cloud storage limits.</p><p>This project has been a fantastic learning experience. It was a crash course in full-stack development, pushing me to dive deeper into frontend technologies, understand JWT for secure access, and implement granular visibility controls. It wasn't always smooth sailing, but the learning was invaluable. Building something I use daily is incredibly satisfying.</p><p>The photo album is designed for ease of use, with simple setup, drag-and-drop photo management, and intuitive visibility controls using `.hidden` and `.private` suffixes. Cloudflare Tunnel ensures secure online access, prioritizing privacy and personal control. It's all wrapped up in a user-friendly package.</p><p>This is an early-stage project, and I'd love for others in the Hachyderm community to try it out! If you're new to self-hosting, feel free to clone the GitHub repository and give it a shot. I'm always open to feedback, whether it's technical or just general impressions. Jeffrey04<p><a href="https://kitfucoda.medium.com/writing-a-telegram-bot-in-python-866972ab63f5" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">kitfucoda.medium.com/writing-a</span><span class="invisible">-telegram-bot-in-python-866972ab63f5</span></a></p><p>I've just finished writing up a deep dive into building a Telegram bot with a FastAPI web application, and it was quite the journey into asynchronous Python! 🐍</p><p>The project started with a desire to run chatbots across multiple platforms, but quickly evolved into a focused exploration of asyncio. I found myself wrestling with event loops, queues, and the nuances of asyncio.create_task vs. asyncio.to_thread. It became very clear that understanding the difference between concurrency and parallelism is absolutely crucial in this space. Clever scheduling can mitigate blocking, but over-scheduling will inevitably lead to performance issues.</p><p>Architectural considerations became a major focus. I learned firsthand that cramming everything into a single process, while tempting, isn't always the best approach. Separating processes for scalability and future enhancements is something I'll definitely keep in mind for future projects.</p><p>This project was a great learning experience, and I'm looking forward to applying these lessons to future projects. Kris Howard<p>Board roles - I recently changed my LinkedIn profile to say that I’m Open to Board Roles (<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristinehoward/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">linkedin.com/in/kristinehoward/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>), and a few recruiters picked up on that <a href="https://aus.social/tags/opentowork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opentowork</span></a> photo frame immediately. No, I’m not looking to go back to work! Still very happily retired. I am specifically only interested in board roles, and there’s no way to flag that without also putting up that photo frame.</p><p>Being on a board is something I’ve been thinking about for several years, after a mentor raised it as a potential career path for me. There’s a real lack of tech industry experience and tech skills on my boards, and women are also woefully underrepresented. I have considered doing the AICD course (<a href="https://www.aicd.com.au/courses-and-programs/all-courses/company-directors-course.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">aicd.com.au/courses-and-progra</span><span class="invisible">ms/all-courses/company-directors-course.html</span></a>), but yowza! it’s expensive to do just in the hopes of getting a paid board role someday. I had coffee with a friend recently who’s on several boards, and she advised that the course isn’t needed right away if I start by aiming for non-profit, volunteer roles.
