I wonder if Maslow ever considered a scenario where wants take precedence over needs. For instance, when someone gets paid at the end of the week, should they prioritize buying food or upgrading to a new cellphone? Surprisingly, the choice often falls on the cellphone. In today's world of constant connectivity, one could argue that a cellphone qualifies as a necessity, though perhaps not as fundamental as food. Meanwhile, there are many in the United States whose most basic needs—food and shelter—remain unmet, forcing them to struggle daily. As the saying goes, "There but for the grace of God, go I."“It isn't normal to know what we want.
