A TTC station is changing its name before even opening
A TTC station that was set to be a jewel in the crown of both the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (whenever it actually gets up and running, which is likely this fall) and the Ontario Line subway is already experiencing an identity crisis before even opening its doors, with its namesake landmark, the Onta...

Wild and wondrous water towers across the heartland

Below are some of the amazing water towers we saw over the past few weeks across the American Heartland. As can be seen, the range of styles, locations, and eras is impressive. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as we did seeing them.

Giant City State Park, ILGroom, TXDepew, OKLansing, MIMakanda, ILAdrian, TXBritten (Groom), TXRushville, INReelsville, IN

While each tower has it’s own storied history, I’ve gotta, say the space-age tower with and observation platform at Giant City State Park in Illinois is a treasure all to itself. More photos and backstory about this most extraordinary water tower will be included in a separate post. Peace!

A suburb of Phoenix is not where one might expect to see a residential development based on emancipation from the dominion of the car.

Reducing car dependency in Arizona matters beyond the borders of the state. All too often those working for more human and environmentally sound planning and transit policies in the USA are met with a simplistic and thought stopping cry of "It might work in Europe, but our geography makes it impossible!"

Former Quayside nightclub could become retirement apartments

The proposals are for the refurbishment and extension of the Waterside Nightclub next door to Towy Works in Carmarthen, with the aim of transforming it into apartments for retired people.

Developers say the plans would see the full renovation of the existing nightclub, transforming it into a building that complements the character of the local area.

23 one-bedroomed apartments are planned in total, with 8 apartments each on the first and second floors and 7 apartments on the upper ground floor along with a reception lobby and services room.

The lower ground floor would remain a void apart from cycle storage facilities due to the building’s  flood risk.

Developers say that should flood water from the adjacent River Tame enter the building from The Quay, then residents would be able to exit the building from the higher access on Coracle Way which is not subject to the same flood risk.

A consultation on the plans by planning consultants Evans Banks will run until 25 April after which a formal planning application would be submitted to Carmarthenshire Council planners for consideration.
