If you listen carefully, you'll hear this ceramic figure from Antioquia (Northwest of Colombia) whispering ancient stories. Indigenous artisans crafted this piece between 600 and 900 CE, and yet it looks so modern. I admire how they managed to capture such a profound serenity and wisdom in its peaceful expression.

View of Ollantaytambo through an ancient window, Incan stones framing the present day. As I stood there, in the mountain storehouses (I posted a photo of them some time ago), I thought the climb was really worth it!

I loved these llamas peacefully grazing among the ruins of Pumapungo ("the door of the puma" in Quechua), a city laid by the Incas centuries ago. This place, that was compared to the empire capital, Cusco, was the northern border of the Inca territory. It is in current day Cuenca, Ecuador.

Cusco is the city that has been continuously inhabited for the longest time in all of South America. I admire its long and straight streets, lined with perfectly fitted stones. I sometimes wish I could have visited it during the heights of the Inca empire!

From this vantage point, Ollantaytambo reveals itself as the underrated gem of Peru's Sacred Valley. Notice the remarkable Inca agricultural terraces on the opposite mountain and the stone qullqas (storehouses) cling to the cliff at my side. Below, terracotta rooftops of the modern town contrast with the ancient architectures.

Happy #footpathFriday! This one's special, it's another photo taken in Machu Picchu, on the ancient Inca steps leading up to Huayna Picchu! Watching my friend hike these centuries-old stairs really puts things in perspective. It's a time machine carved in stone!

Stepping into Machu Picchu hits different when you're right there in the terraces, not just viewing it from the classic postcard spot. From this angle, you really feel the depth of Inca engineering. In the background, Huayna Picchu is standing like a guardian.

The Identity Politics of Masculinity as a Colonial Legacy

"The #PreColonial #Indonesian notion of personhood diverges from a western conceptualisation and is expressed instead through #cooperation, #mutuality, #sharing, #caring, and a readiness to #negotiate and #compromise – all of which are characteristics that are associated with feminine qualities and were thus considered inferior according to #Eurocentric understandings of the #subordination of women in #WesternSociety"

by Desi Dwi Prianti
03 Nov 2019

"[In this paper] I argue that a hierarchical structure between masculine and the feminine was introduced by the #Dutch #colonisers – a structure in which they considered themselves to represent the superior, masculine side of the binary, whereas the colonised were seen as their effeminate subjects."
