The small shrine next to #Tachibana shrine in #Ageo #Saitama #Japan #日本 #埼玉県 #上尾 #橘神社

A couple of red wooden lanterns in posts in front of a stone torii gate in front of a smaller shrine. I crouched down to make the shot so the lens is angled upwards and only capturing the top two thirds of lanterns and gate and the shrine with just a bit of its masonry foundation.

The shrine was likely founded by Agatainukai-no-Michiyo (県犬養三千代 655?-733), mother of Empress Kōmyō (光明皇后), to enshrine her family ancestors (she was the first of her clan to hold the name Tachibana).

Empress Kōmyō then moved the shrine to the capital Heijō-kyō (平城京 the old name for Nara).

A shot taken from the side of the grounds. In the foreground is the tip of a stone lantern and a section of the roof of the shrine, in front of which it's situated. A bit further in the back is a side view of most of the non-public section of the main shrine and with it its ornately made wooden roof. Technically, there's a fourth rid because the fence surrounding the main shrine also has a tilted, tiled roof. But I've decided that doesn't count! The sky is mostly blue with a couple of clouds.
