Another thought about #AI- Alan #Turing was clearly brilliant, has the #TuringTest misled us all?

LLMs are a bit like another level of #GoogleTranslate, which was also just a probability synthesiser with a propensity for hallucination. #LLM #AI
As for #AGI & the #Turing test, we're still a verrry long way off!

#Turing’s new test is therefore to ask for a drawing of a left-handed holding a glass of red wine filled to the brim!
Alan #Turing: The #codebreaker who saved 'millions of lives' by breaking the encryption messages of hitler to the generals in the front. After #WW2, Turing was convicted because of his #homosexuality and given a choice between imprisonment and probation. His probation would be conditional on his agreement to undergo hormonal physical changes designed to reduce libido, known as "chemical castration".
don't let the powerful control you, keep the flame of resisting burning for the next generations
I'm reading about the Turing Machine and looking at the Formal definition on the wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_machine#Formal_definition
The picture to the right which shows an example of a busy beaver doesn't make sense at all. Decided to draw it on paper manually and the states are correct, but the orange and white squares are confusing.
A great little article. Why pay attention to this? Well…some of the relationships between #Computability, #Undecidability, #Church-#Turing , #SuperDeterminism, #Nonfalsifiability and bits like the #SimulationHypothesis indicate deeper complexities and connections. Is there some underlying dimensionality or topology yet to emerge ? It seems likely, but vexatious

#Alberta #Canada professor, Richard Sutton, won the #Turing award.
< is he the dude that is into the branch of #AI where #algorithms learn from their #environment, stuff like reinforcement learning? >
Yes, and so he left the #US.
< what!!! what??? >
Wonderful news for Edmonton's AI mage Rich Sutton, for the University of Alberta, and for AMII, the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute. I've had a couple of chances over the years to interview Rich and his colleagues, and tour their labs. Their work on reinforcement learning - far more interesting than LLM - has made Edmonton a real AI centre of excellence. Meeting him is the closest I'll ever come to meeting Gandalf. https://www.ualberta.ca/en/folio/2025/03/computing-science-professor-wins-turing-award.html #yeg #Edmonton #ualberta #TuringAward #Turing #AI
The #Turing award this year goes to the folks who pioneered reinforcement learning. Congratulations to Andrew Barto and Richard Sutton. https://awards.acm.org/about/2024-turing
Alan Turing had proven that determining whether an arbitrary program will halt (terminate) or run forever is non-computable.
Sir Roger Penrose claims that human consciousness might involve non-computable processes, thus won't be achievable with current computer-driven AI implementations. However, this doesn't mean that these AIs won't be better than humans in certain tasks.
Besides his very demanding academic work Alan #Turing was an avid runner. He supposedly ran to relax his mind from his #work. This took him all the way to clocking a 2:46:03 in the #marathon in 1948. This is a time that many ambitious runners would be very happy with today. But #running this in 1948, while working full time is extremely impressive.
