Charming. After I finally managed to get #lynx to display umlauts, I discovered a reference to an improved version of #w3m in a discussion round. It's called #chawan and is a #TUI #browser for #Linux that only needs "cha" to start.

When I used it to access my blog, I was amazed at the output. That's how great #Internet can be in the #terminal. Now I'll surf on the console even more often ;-)

Charmant. Nachdem es mir gelang, dass #lynx endlich Umlaute darstellte, entdeckte ich in einer Diskussionsrunde den Hinweis auf eine verbesserte Version von #w3m. Nennt sich #chawan und ist ein #TUI #Browser für #Linux, der zum Starten aber nur "cha" benötigt.

Als ich mein Blog damit ansteuerte, habe ich die Ausgabe wirklich mit offenem Mund bestaunt. So toll kann #Internet im #Terminal sein. Jetzt werde ich noch häufiger auf der Konsole surfen ;-)

I might be starting to draft a post about using mostly #cli and #tui programs to engage with the internet in a slow, calm manner over the holidays. Starring #offlineimap #notmuch and #alot for email, #offpunk and #w3m for web, and #tootcli for Mastodon. Yes that means I need to look into accessibility issues in the #Hugo #PaperMod theme.

I have an early prototype of #w3m using #libcurl. This means today is the day when #w3m did its first HTTP/1.1 request.

Only 28 years after HTTP/1.0 was obsoleted.

I absolutely love the fact that I can update my #WritingMonth progress from within #w3m

TIL if you save a file in #w3m and you start the file name with a '|' w3m opens a pipe for you and send the file content to it.

E.g. press S to save the current rendered document, when asked for the file name insert '|gzip > /tmp/file.gz' to save a compressed version.

This is completely undocumented and exists at least since 2011.

I find it extremely worrying that no #browser can get by with less than 1 GB of RAM anymore, not even #qutebrowser. To display a bit of #html you need such bloated software? Even for dynamic content I think that's completely excessive.

Switching to #tut for #Mastodon is still easy. It gets more difficult with websites. I tried #links #lynx and #w3m. The latter is the clear winner. It can also be practically linked to my #RSS reader #newsboat. But that's not exactly beautiful. It's all very depressing. #Linux

Ich finde es äußerst bedenklich, dass kein #Browser mehr mit unter 1 GB RAM auskommt, selbst #qutebrowser nicht. Um ein bisschen #html anzuzeigen braucht es derart aufgeblähte Software? Selbst für dynamische Inhalte halte ich das für völlig überzogen.

Für #Mastodon auf #tut wechseln, ist ja noch einfach. Bei Webseiten wird es schwieriger. Ich habe mal #links #lynx und #w3m probiert. Letzterer ist klarer Gewinner. Er lässt sich auch praktikabel mit meinem #RSS-Reader #newsboat verknüpfen. Aber schön ist was anderes. Sehr depremierend, das alles. #Linux

Playing with the chawan browser and like... heck I could probably use this as a daily driver. Miles easier than #w3m and #links2 (especially with images and CSS) and I really like the man page viewer and it views Gopher!

Today I took the time to update the NEWS file. Here are some features that where added to w3m since I forked it:

- Allow to limit the text width with -cols or through an option
- Enable re-ordering of buffers in the stack menu
- Add support for gophers, gopher with SSL
- Allow to close the last buffer with BACK
- Prepend https instead of http if no scheme is provided
- Allow to change the dictionay prompt
- Make 'skip to content' links work
- Add command to jump to the <main> tag
