I think it's kinda weird that the president of the US gets to stay on Twitter after threatening war crimes and cyberbullying children because his tweets are "of public interest" but the president of Syria gets banned...

Not that I'm sympathetic, but it does seem hypocritical and highlights the issues with social media that's controlled by a single US company. Why do they get to enforce their own interests worldwide?

@Gargron my first thought was "nationalize Twitter" but then I had the better thought of "delete twitter"

@sexybenfranklin "Nationalize" has the flaw in the name. It's still a single country having a monopoly. Decentralize!

You can't delete corporate social media, it's like cockroaches. The best you can manage is to make it scuttle off into the dark and out of sight.

@SeanAloysiusOBrien I'm still a fan of American Exceptionalism manifest destiny and all that seems to be the last of my childhood beliefs though I am edging back towards Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy But given you young people no longer value respect for the aged with their increasingly senile views I am a little fearful to write it out aloud @Gargron

@Gargron I bet if you said what he says on a daily basis you would have been suspended right then and there.

@jessemarioneaux Arent you missing the point a little. If I say I am going to wreak such revenge I know not what maybe I am a resting actor trying to impress you with my Lear or maybe I am just an old fart. But the POTUS twitter apparently is the official way the Executive power of the USA communicates with the world. I don't have the capability to organize drone strikes to kill your President. These days I find it difficult to get an egg sunny side up easy. There is a difference. @Gargron

@Gargron Twitter is a US company and their business interests will get hampered, if they publicly go against US prez.. This is all about who get to control the capital! Free speech exists only till you don't question your bosses!

@Gargron But they also ruled he isn't allowed to block US citizens. Whereas lot of nasty men in power these days. The office of POTUS I still respect more than some third world shithole dictatorship. All right for you mate in Europe I have to live in a third world shithole. So I earn the right to call them third world shitholes.

@Gargron it’s not good to threaten anyone. We should use the Internet to promote peace. War is unfathomably ugly. The path of peace leads to a happier conclusion.

@Absolutely_Blakely @Gargron

Everyone report Trump's Tweets to the site's useless pro-RW moderation machine! If we all work together we can... Wait never mind. That's a fairy tale. What if we all just said "Screw it" and walked out for good instead and found another place to play? 🎭

@Eugen @Christoffer Tallerås It highlights the problem of depending on US services and technology in general, and on a centralised service in particular.

@Gargron Syrian president should get onto a mastodon instance and start tooting. That'll show the world what decentralised social media is.

@Gargron its almost as if Jack Dorsey is a piece of shit

@Gargron I don't see away around the "we all get to promote our interests" side of the equation.

What gets me is - every single day, this guy finds a new way to play "let's you and him fight."

Why don't we stop him?

If the 50%+ of people who don't want to play simply picked a company (say twitter) and boycotted it like a bus company in '55, we could put an end to this.

@Gargron That is how I feel about Facebook. I got post-banned for speaking out against racist and terroristic posts, but they kept the posts I was referring to. Can't tell you how many posts I've reported that went against Facebook's rules and I got a comment back saying it "does not go against Facebook policy" every time. :thonking: :thaenkin:

@Gargron But doesn’t every operator of every Mastodon instance get to enforce their interests worldwide as it relates to moderation policy?
