Forget the 9-Euro-Ticket, I wish Germany adopted tap on/off with contactless for public transit, but I don’t have my hopes up for any digitalization over here

@Gargron But why? I just want a ticket for Germany and without an possibility for tracking unless random controls are happening.

@Gargron there is some app based solution but ultimative the best would be some single ticket like the 9 Euro ticket. That way you don't leave data, you don't forget tapping, and it's idiot proof.

If I remember correctly from visiting Berlin long ago, you don't tap on but you do stick your ticket into a drucker on first use. No idea what kinds of tickets locals use tho.

@Gargron NFC-F rocks.
It's far faster and reliable than NFC-A, B, or (of course) 2D code scanning as in the DB app.

I would love for you to experience that, but the biggest drawback is, you need to come to Japan.

Still, I can assure you that it's worth coming. Some guy I don't know well also came for a train ride yesterday.

@Gargron, to be fair, there is an app that does this and you don’t have to care about paper tickets.

@Gargron To be fair, the 9-Euro-Ticket:

1 - Is contactless
2 - Does not run out of battery)
3 - Fits in your pocket better than a smartphone
4 - There is no paid subscription, just don't buy a new one when you do not want to renew it.
5 - Collects a lot less user data, and travel info than any smartphone app.

@Gargron why would you want to give your privacy away for free when the 9 Euro ticket is much cheaper to manage (it’s all tax money anyway) and anonymous?
Also, can you imagine installing tourniquets and closing gates and accesses over Infratructure that was never meant to be closed on the first place? The first thing that will be ruined are th elevators for disabled people and prumps, as in Germany they are built to access directly the trains from the ground level.

@markoer The 9-Euro-Ticket is not going to be a thing. I give up my privacy just the same way by buying tickets through the app, just in a far less convenient way. Tap on/off does not require closing gates.

@Gargron the 9 euro ticket could be bought anonymously at every ticket dispenser.
Now we will have a 49 eur ticket which will be an “abo” so bye bye privacy.
