Someone brought to my attention that there is a Twitter account impersonating the Mastodon project. This is a fake account: twitter.com/MastodonTM

- We don't do the business of selling blue or green checkmarks
- We don't have "office hours"
- We don't collect donations on behalf of disasters (unless you consider me a disaster)
- I would know how to spell Houston for god's sake

- We never use Twitter's logo in branding or illustrations. Fluffy elephant sitting on the bird is a photoshop in bad taste. We are competing with centralization, not one single specific company
- For that matter, I would never use graphics that are that low res

I also really don't use Twitter that much. I actually see 0 reason to use a Twitter account for Mastodon. However, there is one "official" one, and it is: twitter.com/MastodonProject

@gargron "complete freedom of speech! #Huston #Texas" oh this feels so wrong

Eugen @Gargron

@CobaltVelvet Wrong on so many levels! Mastodon is not a US project. To tag it with Texas feels like American imperialism.

@gargron yes but, even ignoring all the ways in which it is factually wrong, it looks like it was written by an american fascist boasting about Texas

@CobaltVelvet @Gargron Attribution could be difficult. Pointing out that it is a fraud should be sufficient.

@sillystring @gargron yes of course it's a feeling, i'm not saying nazis are squatting mastodon on twitter

@Gargron @CobaltVelvet I'm gonna go and guess they're trying to squat ~trending~ topics to get people to send them money for their dodgy shit like "verification" and "donations"

@gargron @CobaltVelvet Even us Americans throw up in our mouth a little bit when we see something tagged with Texas.

Sorry, Texans. But your state sucks.
