Mr. Funk E. Dude

Someone just came by my house and tried to collect our mail-in ballots. They said they were representing a local democratic politician, and said that they would deliver our ballot for us. We asked for his identification, which he gave, and any sort of identification showing he was with who he said he was with. And he supplied all of it.

And we still didn’t give him our ballots.

I don’t know if this guy was legit or not, but there’s no fucking way I’m taking a chance with this election.

@adhdeanasl @Mrfunkedude That's ballot harvesting. It's not technically illegal, but with everything that's going on? Yeah, best to drop off your ballot yourself.

There's fuckery about.

@Legit_Spaghetti @adhdeanasl After I read your post, I checked and yeah ballot harvesting is legal here in California.

Don’t care. I’m still not willing to take the chance.

@Mrfunkedude @Legit_Spaghetti @adhdeanasl You people from USA never stop surprising me at how many legal loopholes you have for potential election fraud.

From getting your voting rights revoked for multiple reasons (excuse me????) to this.

Keep it simple: One adult person, one vote. And that vote can only be deposited in official places. Period.

All the rest is... potential fraud waiting to happen.

@delawen @Mrfunkedude @Legit_Spaghetti @adhdeanasl Nothing tops the fraud of our electoral college that gives the job to the loser.

@Ponygirl @delawen @Mrfunkedude @Legit_Spaghetti @adhdeanasl

Believe it or not it's worse in the UK. Starmer became Prime Minister in a "landslide" election where his party earned 33.7% of the votes cast. Based on that vote, the Labour party holds 63% of the seats in the House of Commons.

@delawen It’s the American Dream to give every man, woman, and child in this country every opportunity to get ahead by malfeasance. @Mrfunkedude @Legit_Spaghetti

Yeah. It all becomes clearer when you realize it's fundamentally a system designed by wealthy white guys to keep them in power. So all of these exploitable flaws are actually features.

@delawen@floss.social @Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social @Legit_Spaghetti@mastodo.neoliber.al @adhdeanasl@beige.party

@Legit_Spaghetti
Yeah, a couple of Chump supporters were caught doing that in 2020 in Georgia IIRC.

I think that was how they caught the Chump supporter who stole his dead mother's ballot and voted for Chump in her name

@adhdeanasl @Mrfunkedude

@Mrfunkedude Yikes. I could totally see an elderly person falling for that.

@Mrfunkedude
I'm going to enjoy in-person voting this year in my "They're eating the dogs" shirt.

@Mrfunkedude
I'm in a super red area in one of the reddest states. Truck nuts everywhere red. I'll take great pride in casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. There's also some local bullshit I hope is voted down, and then there's Josh Hawley. It's highly unlikely, but I'd love to see that asshole unseated.

@sbourne
My shirts don't mention politics directly. It's just a French bulldog on a hamburger bun.
@Mrfunkedude

@That_One_Guy @Mrfunkedude You can get away with anything if it's obscure enough 😂

@Mrfunkedude @sbourne @That_One_Guy I wore a potatoe pin to a polling place back in the day and was told to remove it. All it said was potatoe with an 🚫 through the e.

@Mrfunkedude This is terrifying. Especially this year. Good for you for not taking him up on it.

@Mrfunkedude I've never heard of that. I like to drop off my ballot myself.

@Mrfunkedude

Good call. I wouldn't hand my ballot to a stranger

@Mrfunkedude Its a felony to illegally collect ballots. That doesn't worry magats.

@mickymorse @Mrfunkedude It differs from state to state. It's legal in my state (California) but with some restrictions, and it's legal in 30 other states.

@Mrfunkedude @SrRochardBunson
You made the right call, even if this person was legit.

@Mrfunkedude It's either *in person voting* or it's *mail-in voting* via the United States Postal Service.
There is no: *ding-dong*, Hello! I'll take your vote and drop it off for you!
Do not give your ballot to a door knocker. Ever! Tell them to go pound sand and shove their fake I.D.s up their neverlands.
I don't care what state you live in. Stay the course. Secure your vote like you always have.

@Npars01 @rayckeith @Mrfunkedude article is from 2019. Here it is without paywall:
#giftarticle archive.is/xwKdb

But this paragraph displays badly so I'll put it here:

"sworn testimony … illuminated the inner workings of Mr. Dowless’s precise but amateurish operation, … that paid about $3 for every collected absentee ballot request & $2.50 for each collected absentee ballot. The scheme has called into question whether the Republican candidate, really outpolled his Democratic opponent."

@Mrfunkedude Ain’t no way that was legit. He would have destroyed them. And how did he know you had your mail -in-ballots?

@MiriShuli @Mrfunkedude Everyone in California gets a mail-in ballot, so it’s a pretty safe bet.

@samhainnight @Mrfunkedude It’s legal to drop off another person’s ballot in California, but it’s peculiar to go around collecting them. I’ve been a Pollworker here for several years and I’ve never seen someone drop off ballots for anyone outside their immediate family.

@Mewness @Mrfunkedude Family or close friends is one thing, but yeah. I would never hand my ballot to a stranger.

@Mrfunkedude that's illegal in all states, in one way or another. you either mail-in your vote or vote in person. that's it.

@Mrfunkedude and why? Why would someone come by a person's house and offer to drop off their ballot? Could this be some RW election fraud scheme where they go to Democratic households and dump D ballots in the garbage. It's needed to ballot harvest where there's a problem, like in a nursing home, or a prison or on far flung Indian land with horses but there is no reason to swing by a house to do it.

@Mrfunkedude yeah, with ya there … that’s a hard NO

@Mrfunkedude
Those ballots are everything right now. You were smart to safeguard them.

@Mrfunkedude

Well done, sir!

The world salutes you 👏👏👏👏👏

@Mrfunkedude Hell, I'm dubious about a vote getting there and being counted even if I put it in the post box myself. Handing it to someone else, even a "friendly"? Bugger that.

We don't do as much vote by mail in the UK, but then again, voting in person isn't deliberately made into a great big nightmare here.

@Mrfunkedude no no that's legit; they're a division of the Office of the Wallet Inspector General

@Mrfunkedude I definitely wouldn't trust it. And I'd probably call 866-OUR-VOTE.

@Mrfunkedude in Colorado, state law prohibits any one person delivering more than 10 ballots for counting.

@Mrfunkedude

From a non-US perspective, your whole voting system is bizarre 🤷

@Mrfunkedude why would people do this?! Even if legit, there is ZERO reason to do this. I’m old enough to remember when we said anything that makes voting seem sketchy is no bueno Read the room!

@Mrfunkedude I work for our local township election committee and I've never heard of this. Thank goodness you didn't fall for this.
