Follow Just a heads up, I'm running MX Linux no problem on a 2014 Macbook, including having a Thunderbolt Ethernet adaptor working out of the box. So, if you have trouble, that's the next one I would try. MX Linux is like if Debian and Mint had an XFCE baby with both Stretch and custom repos and programs to make things a heck of a lot easier. Incredibly stable too. It's the best one I've used so far and I've tried Mint, Elementary, Arch, OpenSuSE, Fedora, custom made my own, etc.
