MIT Technology Review · The US wants to use facial recognition to identify migrant children as they age By Eileen Guo

@alshafei somebody please fire whoever supports this idea, pls. kthx.

@alshafei What people in power do to the most vulnerable is a trial run of their plans for the rest of us, just as soon as they believe they can get away with it.

"DHS plans to collect biometric data from migrant children 'down to the infant'"

@alshafei what, is Mengele in charge over there?

@alshafei I see no mention of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) that would have to approve research on human subjects. Apart from consents to collect & store this data, they would need additional consents explicitly limiting uses of the data collected. For minors, the consent would have to be provided by a parent or legally recognized guardian.

There is also the issue of duress and whether asylum seekers and other *refugees* (Can we please stop calling refugees “migrants”?) can consent.
