The torrid saga of ReiserFS nears its end with “obsolete” label in Linux kernel
A little-used file system named for a convicted murderer should be out by 2025.
@arstechnica "Torrid"? "Sordid," perhaps?
@cek @arstechnica I used it a lot back in the day. It was very good. Tragic situation.
@cek @arstechnica Torrid is a more british term for there being trials and tribulations politically, rather than anything else.
@arstechnica its truly unfortunate that so little of his innovative work was credited to him in discussions of other file systems.
@arstechnica It's bad enough you had to run a story on this - there's plenty else for ars to cover - but using this photo is absolutely distasteful. Y'all should be ashamed.
@jzb @arstechnica Seconded.
A better choice in photo would have been a generic linux/maybe a SuSE call-out from long ago.
But not something as morose as that. It's weirdly disrespectful to everyone involved.
@arstechnica So evidence amply points to Hans Reiser having done the crime.
Sorry if I spoiled this story for anyone.
