To everyone DMing me to ask for calckey.social invitation codes: I’m not giving them out.

You’re probably really cool. Typically, I’d welcome you with open arms.

But right now, calckey.social needs to take a breather.

Here’s other servers you can join, though:

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social its truly remarkable how effective creating fomo is

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social no i totally get it, youve made a good and hard choice. Calckey got pretty hard to use the last few days under the server load tbh, so I'm glad you did.

I'm fascinated by how sudden this uptick in Calckey interest is though.

@laurenshof It’s a variety of factors, I think. Part of it is that *key apps are generally growing in users. The other is that the Mastodon honeymoon period is over, and people want some fresh hotness. Finally, I think Calckey looks incredibly futuristic.

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social agreed with those reasons.

Part of it that also matters I feel is that it takes a surprisingly long time for a lot of people for the concept of decentralization to really 'click'. Think that contributed quite a bit to where mastodon gets equated with the fediverse for a lot of people, which is not being helped by its dominance in market share. Rise of bluesky is helping break that, but so does pixelfed and now *key.

Honestly, I'd prepare for quite a big inflow of new people. Theres a lot of people on masto who believe in the concept of the fediverse, but havent actually given anything else beyond masto a shot. Now fomo is starting to kick in, and seems like a very large percentag eof that group will wanna try the new hotness

@laurenshof @atomicpoet@mastodon.social My data point is this: Chris had been posting about calckey of course, and then FediTips posted that calckey.social was a stable server. These two things together cut through decision paralysis (many choices of fediverse platforms + not a whole lot of info on them aside from mastodon + "brain fog" from chronic health problems) to give a clear and easy navigable path.
So not fomo for me at least, just hope that elsewhere in the fediverse might be a better fit than what I've put together on mastodon and a FediTip pointing the way to one in particular. Seems likely that account gets some of the credit/blame for the influx :)
