The Fediverse isn’t the only form of decentralized social media that exists.

There’s also the Relayverse, of which Nostr is prominent.

In many ways, the Relayverse is a mirror universe of the Fediverse.

People there get very angry if you’re not into crypto.

Another weird quirk of the Relayverse is that people seemingly love spam.

I’m not joking here. They positively love being flooded by unsolicited DMs peddling casinos and boner pills.

If you tell people on the Relayverse that you think all the spam sucks, they’ll tell you, “You should feel honoured to see all this free speech in action! Nay, you should pay for it!”

Jack Dorsey really, really loves the Relayverse.

He’s more active on Nostr than on Bluesky.

@atomicpoet I'm guessing it's because there's a lot crypto bros on Nostre.

@atomicpoet He wants to be above the common folk who use social media. Nostr is so far beyond anything that the masses can use. He is in love with crypto. Nostr is his baby.

@mike @atomicpoet It isn't for an elite group of people who will continue to use it because they are far beyond the reach of any regulation. It is monopoly money.

@funbreaker @atomicpoet@mastodon.social Agreed, I am glad someone is experiencing that cesspit and letting us know about it

@DuncanWatson @atomicpoet@mastodon.social it still sucks a bit because I love little, out of the way places both IRL and online.
But i don't need people singing the praises of Horny Goat Weed DMs in ny timeline
#fedimeta #nostr

@atomicpoet The fediverse with an evil moustache.

@atomicpoet what do you think are the pros and cons of relayverse in comparison to fediverse?

@strongthany The pro of the Relayverse is that you don't need a server because it runs on relays.

The con of the Relayverse is that it runs on relays, you can't use a server.

@atomicpoet I like some of the tech behind Nostr but the discussion is all Bitcoin religious. I keep going back to check out what is going on and don't stay long.

@atomicpoet Email? Web? FidoNet? Usenet? :) It’s not like it was invented a few years ago.

@breadbin I would consider Email and Usenet to be part of the Fediverse.

If it enables two-way communication across multiple nodes, then it's federated.

@atomicpoet Never thought of it that way. So fediverse more as a concept than anything else. Neat.

Still shows that federated and distributed works :) And have, for a long time.

To me the open part is the big deal. Tired of big corps messing with social media.

(Realized that open means a lot of different things. So just “not owned by a single corporation” open :))

@atomicpoet It’s really weird. I can’t say I enjoyed a single post that I saw after giving it a try for like 2 hours.
