What stage of capitalism is it when companies report record profits, wealth inequity grows, and taxes are cut on corporations and the wealthy while the WSJ suggests you could save money by starving yourself and your family?
@augieray "Austerity for thee, not for ME!"
I think it's the last stage before the revolution begins...I hope.
@augieray Marx would say it's time for a revolution.
@augieray this should be in the Onion.
@bassoonwrath @augieray The Onion ran this last week: https://theonion.com/experts-recommend-using-hunger-as-egg-substitute/
I guess someone at WSJ saw that and thought, “Hey, that’s not a bad idea!”
Edit: Looks like the WSJ article was from 2 years ago, so it actually predates the Onion article.
@augieray God damn! I thought it must be a spoof, the Onion, or some such, but I checked it out. Then again, they may have a point -- if I ate every other day, I could afford eggs and orange juice on the on days... Alternatively, if we expropriated just one multi-billionaire we could all have breakfast every day, with a side of health care.
@augieray
It’s just the normal stage of capitalism.
Don't forget that 99.6% of poor people own a refrigerator, those filthy rich swine!
Someone should ask Gabriel T. Rubin to help save the planet by inhaling less. Trees require resources, buddy.
Then ask Gabriel if he would join the effort to save money and eggs, by having the fourth-generation servant family that wipes his pecker after a pee-pee, to cook his ivory tower ass one less meal.
Oh.
He's an economist. They make great park benches.
@augieray To be fair, this is what The Financial Diet (Youtube channel) recommended like.. 10 or so year ago, but that was when they and the greater audience hadn't quite grasped how that's a hallmark of disordered eating, and that just saving more is not going to get you richer.
It'd be funny if it wasn't the hell we're all in, how bad things have been for a good while now
@Mimesatwork @augieray She was really into intermittent fasting as a health thing* iirc. I don't think they were advocating it necessarily as a money saving strategy. I don't watch every video they put out, but I don't remember her ever actually pushing it, just talking about her own experience with it
* I know intermittent fasting hasn't had the same effect in humans as it did in mice, making it not a great health thing. But it was the big life extension fad for awhile
@Vincarsi @augieray It was a list of tips for saving money and this was Lauren's video. I remember because I was so appalled they put that on the list. Like yeah, you MAY save money, but skipping meals is not something to publicly advocate as a money saving tip, and skipping breakfast generally does not save you that much, as you're more likely to eat more when you DO eat
@Mimesatwork @augieray wow, that's dark stuff... maybe pushback from that is why when I saw the video about IF there was all sorts of disclaimers. Glad to know they've grown as a channel and corrected fuckups at least
@augieray is this real ??
@DebC Indeed.
@augieray
They put the subtitle in fine print at the bottom of the article: "Let them eat cake!"
@augieray
I guess the editors thought "Let them eat cake" was a little too blatant of a title.
@augieray you can also save A LOT of money when you don't get health care
To save money, maybe you should eat the rich.
@augieray Stage IV, and it's terminal.
The French Revolution?
@augieray We are a mere couple of years away from WSJ suggesting you sell your children for extra cash.
This country has lost it's damn mind.
@augieray I already usually eat only one meal a day.
@augieray That article is from 2 years ago
Jokes on them, since I don't know anyone who eats breakfast.
The goal is not to save money, it is simply most people I know either do not feel hungry in the morning or do not have the time.
@augieray
Ah, finally the op-eds on the free market arrived
@augieray fuckin medieval
@augieray same as the previous stage, where the same things happened. So, near the end, one hopes.
@augieray Over a decade ago in the UK a man died with no food in his stomach:
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/killed-benefits-cuts-starving-soldier-3923771
He missed a benefits appointment and got cut off financially.
Incredibly that Government got reelected multiple times after that.
... I reckon you are in for the long haul given such precedents and lags - hang tight!
@augieray I legit skip eating at times... this is stupid.
@augieray I honestly thought it was article from The Onion...
@augieray Especially after we spent decades preaching to the children "breakfast is the most important meal of the day, skip it the least".
@augieray Does anyone have a link?
@deadtom I didn't realize it's two years old, but the point is still the point.
@augieray the final stage
@augieray It's stage 4. Like cancer.
But this is the American dream, right? Capitalism as if there was no tomorrow. The illusion that one day they'd all be rich.
Anyone can become rich, but not everybody.
Fun fact: in order to become rich, somebody else has to get poor.
That's what most people don't understand.
And those who voted for Trump still think that one day they'll belong to them. Now he's destroying the government and the economy while his fellows become richer and richer.
@augieray I will save you some time: the article is obviously greatly misinterpreted
@augieray we've gone back to corporate feudalism
@augieray Let them skip cake? WTAF!?
@eighthourlunch You'd even save more money if you skip cake! Or just imagine skipping caviar. @augieray
@augieray Ghoul stage capitalism.
@augieray "There Are Only Nine Meals Between Mankind and Anarchy"
@augieray The screenshot is a bit misleading. That's an article from 2023.
(but sadly, your point is still valid)
@augieray @oldmankris let-them-eat-cake stage
@augieray I was hoping that wasn’t an actual article.
@augieray post capitalism- they don’t need to own the means of production anymore, just the platforms that everyone content creates from and is subscribed to for basic necessities. They don’t need to ‘make’ anything, just landlord-ise everything. Can’t let the landlords go hungry.
@augieray and yet just a year ago they ran a story that eating breakfast could save your life….
@augieray I'd say not quite Hellscape, but feel like Dante would have included a reference in the appendices
Yeah, you could save money by starving yourself and shortening your life. And maybe you could earn a few bucks selling a kidney.
@augieray try skipping dinner the most healthy meal should be Breakfest.
I hope it is the final stage just before the system collapses and everybody learns that captialism isnt the better system because it survived a bit longer than the former Sovjet Union.
