Left the office at 5pm. Someone sent me an email at 5:10pm for a project they wanted completed for 9am tomorrow morning.

I was already in my car and on the road when the email** came in.

What would you do? Ignore the email and start work on the project at 9am when you check back in? Or get it done tonight, outside of office hours?

Helps to know that after 4+ years of working from home, they forced me back into the office, 9-5am with no flexibility.

@sand This is hard. By now you probably made your choice, but I think it probably depends on a variety of factors. Like, how long/hard it would be to complete and who this person is and what it’s for. But in some ways explaining you had already left for the day and need more advance time in the future might help get people accustomed to asking earlier in the day and not relying on you to do things so last-minute. 1/

@sand But that’s hard. I don’t think they should expect you to work overnight all the time since you have family obligations and need some downtime when you go home. I imagine commuting and getting dressed to go into the office also adds to your workday now, so, it may be good to set boundaries. Now I’m curious to keep scrolling and find out what you did! 2/2

@biped808 LOL thank you for the double-post response! I ended up not working last night. I had a social function to attend and couldn't do it. I started on it in the morning and submitted a proof. Only they took 2hrs to approve it. So for what seemed like something they needed 9am today, they didn't get back to me until lunch - glad I didn't bother last night!

@sand yay! Glad you didn’t work on it last night. 🎉
