Maybe this would be a good time for an open letter from the Fediverse to and others, explaining exactly what the opportunity is (and what the stakes are). Who knows, maybe the NYT Pitchbot will pick up on it :)

@shoq @dangillmor @jeffjarvis @jayrosen_nyu @jeff @adamdavidson @davetroy @pluralistic @elipariser @atomicpoet @mmasnick @anildash How would you smart people describe to media companies the unique benefits and opportunities of Mastodon/fediverse vs. centralized social?

(Creative answers are most helpful; pretty sure we can all list the basics like "no incentive for addiction," "different server moderation," "never an Elon," etc.)

A fine question. I'm gonna take some time to think about how to answer without sounding like a crackpot true believer. (Which, as you know, I am :)

@shoq "Participate in an opportunity for growth of a different social media."

"Be a partner in the growth of the the fastest-growing social media"

"Align your efforts and values with the values of those who appreciate an alternative, safer form of social media with a unique decorum."

Stuff like that.

@shoq Control your destiny. Be a leader in keeping journalism independent. Help the public understand that centralization limits choice. Etc.
