Is it normal to get cold sales calls and emails from car dealerships *on the other side of the country* after having visited a local dealership website? #AskingForAFriend
@gedeonm Heh, I was looking on Drive Times site, did their pre-qualification thing and got a call from a California number, because my phone has a California area code.
They keep calling. I was just browsing! Stupid me.
@gedeonm one thing I don’t understand is how GEICO sent me a letter offering car insurance just a week after I visited the DMV in SF to get my driver’s license.
@gedeonm Virtually every dealership website is part of a a handful of dealership website platforms. It wouldn’t shock me one bit if somewhere in the ToS there was consent to share data with the whole network.
This. Cox has been buying up this space.
The dealer websites run on Dealer.com and Cox owns auto trader and KBB as well.
Pretty soon cars will be sold when and where cox says they can be and at whatever price they want.
@gedeonm These days I'm not surprised at anything like that.
