In our town hall meeting this morning, an executive told us that they plan to give all software engineer jobs to Al.
When asked what he might have to say of any comfort to us, he said there are still lots of projects to be done in the meantime.
He ended the call by telling us he's uncomfortable with AI coding, knows that we're all uncomfortable with it, and that's exactly where he wants us to be.
@gooba42 this will end well for sure.
@sysop408 Right? "Morale is bad and that's the way I like it!" hasn't been an overtly dominant management practice for a while.
And I love the way it completely misaligned the incentives. Staying in your job is a bet *against* the company making good on its plans.
@ai6yr Yup.
Anybody with faith in the company executing those plans needs to GTFO.
Anybody who stays is making a perverse bet *against* the company.
Week before last, they were celebrating the improvement in "I'm optimistic about my future with the company" survey results.
@gooba42 The beatings will continue until morale improves!
@gooba42 "Also, we are taking over the US government"
@NuanceRhymesWithOrange Ironically he strenuously avoided making any future facing statements about our regulatory environment.
@gooba42 now is the time to quit
@mark_ When I know where the hell to go, I'll go there.
Modern America is an endless stream of baffling ordeals we've all collectively decided to deny.
@gooba42
Presumably, he is uncomfortable with AI doing all the coding because he knows AI codes about as well as I do, and I was a processed cheese cook.
He also knows that whoever your company does work for will rapidly turn to other vendors when the quality of your product goes in the toilet and it will be a race to see if he can cut costs faster than revenues go to zero.
And yet they persevere in this race to the bottom.
@dougfir We're an American health insurance company, our customers have few good options and fewer as time goes on. There's near zero chance of the company going under or being accountable for failure.
It'll cause massive pain and upset, run in the headlines for a couple days and then go back to business as usual.
@gooba42 ugh. I hope your company is not a non-profit based in Utah.
@gooba42 Time for that Glassdoor review.
