Everyone should just mess with them by giving false info. When I had a FB account I figured out that I can reduce the unwanted fascist bullshit in my feed by doing some searches for panties and bras...magically I got ads for those instead. When the fascism started creeping back in, I did another search to remind the algorithm. But my political posts were antifascist...so it finally blocked me.

This is packaged as a user experience but I think it's more likely other people are more interested in your relationship and psychological stuff than you are. And not for beneficial reasons.
