I'm seeing a lot of discourse in my networks here disparaging "free speech" because of the way some reactionaries have misused that concept as a rhetorical weapon.

But properly understood free speech isn't a callous and myopic personal entitlement to avoid consequences, but a matter of how discourse and communication flows across an entire society. This requires routing around malicious nodes.

So punching a nazi can in fact be the truest defense of free speech.
