My first day as a software developer: “I am going to change the world.”
Ten years later: “I am lost and difficult to keep up with the current trends. I want to keep it simple.”
Fifteen years later: “I am tired, lost faith in the world and now want to work as a carpenter.”
@nixCraft I bailed at about 25 years. 17 of those years under constant threat of layoffs. The layoffs happened just not to me. Just a constant grind. Lucky/unlucky I guess. There ought to be some version of the Kübler-Ross model of grief for SW developers...
Anyway carpentry sounds much less stressful and possibly more satisfying.
