people with cancer should not feel we have to hide our disease because we fear what other people will or won't say. we, as a society, need to get better at talking about death.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in January 2020, which carries a 5-year survival rate south of 15%. I've been privileged to have good access to care, to not have my condition become a financial burden from either medical bills or loss of income, and I've been lucky that my cancer has responded well to chemo.

I've had over 80 rounds of chemo. I'll make it to the 5-year mark.

@tatianagoddess but how much longer after that, no one can predict. It's not "terminal", but treatment is something I have to live with... Until it stops working.

Many of my co-workers know my diagnosis. But I still pick and choose how much and when to share, because yes, people have a hard time facing mortality.
