coming soon: fep-9988 "Federated Forums" -- this should get the conversation started...

update: fep-9988 is on hold for now, as it is quickly morphing and evolving. due to nebulous boundaries of the concept of a "forum". it's seeming more like a rough and general conformance profile for general-purpose social networking, and the only real difference between current mastodon and this stuff is that mastodon doesn't have explicit conversations or threads.

so anyway: fep-8007 "A conformance profile for social networking services" is what i'm working on for now.

fep-8007 tries to formalize and properly define assumptions and primitives and then map them to social networking features. it's gonna be similar to docs.joinmastodon.org/spec/act but not specific to mastodon -- deference will be given to other implementations, the FEP is a broad survey, descriptive but also somewhat prescriptive of what *ought* to be done. the goal is a set of normative requirements that concisely bounds behavior such that we don't have the current situation of no one being conformant

of course conformance to this profile still requires collaboration and alignment from implementers, so i'm hoping to also pursue this in parallel with SocialCG
