Currently in Bhutan documenting animal migrations on assignment for Nat Geo. So lucky to get to spend six weeks here! Photo from Thimphu District. Even just outside the capital the natural sights are truly stunning.

me: [Explaining Mastodon] So then everyone got booted, and now they just boost toots

Dr. Seuss: go on

Anyone know if there is a decent illustration-focused instance? (Or how to search for such a thing?)

So Mastodon still doesn't have a way to tag an image with its creator.
(Twitter, FB, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest all have variations of this).
I wonder if a social network designed with image creators in mind will ever come along.

So Mastodon has a lot of cool features but you can't tag an image with its creator. Attribution is cool. Mastodon should be cool.

One of the most important things to know if you're migrating here from Twitter is that simply liking a post does NOT cause it to show up in anyone else's timeline. That only happens if you actually boost ("RT") the post.

This is especially important when creators you care about are trying to get the word out about their work. It is unbelievably disheartening to send out something important (like a Kickstarter link) and see everybody like it but nobody boost it.

Logged into Mastodon for the 1st time in like, a year.

When you're exploring people's toots on Mastodon and like a ghost of the past, "we think you may like these Pins" rolls across your notifications
I should use Pinterest more. It's a visually based medium after all and that's what I do.

Here's some for your fresh eyes.
My character Trilobite Boy, the teen with a trilobite head. Painted using ArtRage.

Idea: What if different /gnusocial instances had different focuses? e.g. "This one is for poltics", etc. Then you could talk about politics there.

reading a bunch of comments about Mastodon on tech news sites about how it "will never succeed" or will go extinct. Problem is, that defines Mastodon's success in the metrics of Silicon Valley VC. The point of Mastodon does not appear to be a growth -> exit -> brand vehicle strategy that Twitter has been struggling with.

I'm having a good time here. Isn't that success enough?

Wonder if there's a use case here for different domains targeting different communities. Like, what if I made a musicians' Mastodon instance?

update: Admins can now easily close registrations with a custom message. In other news, I have closed registrations to for now ensure a quality of service for all existing ones, and to promote other federated nodes.

Need more , , and peeps on Mastodon. Please enjoy this scientific illustration of a Trachys Jewel Beetle I made while I loiter over here.
