I want to expand this UI to manage both who you are following as well as your followers. Should I call it "Manage subscriptions" (reminds of YouTube) or "Relationship manager" (reminds of Patreon)?

@Gargron "Relationship manager" sounds like a dating website

@Gargron i have a visceral negative reaction to manage subscriptions

@Gargron it could even be made into an indie game, Relationship Manager 2019

@anna @Gargron i thought thats what mastodon was about from the start?

though its easy to win if you are leftist and queer

@nutomic @Gargron love to log in and use my queer leftist privilege to oppress the cishets on mastodon dot com

@Gargron can you get rid of that ugly verb "to manage" at all?

@saper I can, but still left with subscriptions or relationships, because followers and followings cannot be united into one word otherwise!

@Gargron "relations" maybe, but that is still not obvious that this means "followers" and "followings" at the same time. I'd have hell of a trouble translating it nicely. Those I just "people I interact with"...

@Gargron
"Relationship manager" sounds like marriage counseling.

@citrustwee No, that's what a page where you have settings for like, Twitch/Discord/Twitter integrations, on other websites

@Gargron hmm, yeah. relationship manager feels a little too intimate and subscription manager sounds too corporate. trying to think of somethin that would fit a little better 🤔

@citrustwee @Gargron Connection manager would be a middle ground? But I suspect it would make people think it's tech related

@sophia @LuigiEsq @citrustwee I have a "mutuals" filter in there, tempted to add a "big leaguing" filter

@Gargron @sophia @citrustwee finally we have the power to right the greatest injustice ever wrought: not following back

@citrustwee I try to take into account what people may be familiar with from other sites

@Gargron association manager? idk that doesn't sound great. hmmmmm

@citrustwee It's fine, I will just call it Follows & Followers

@Gargron yeah, that's probably what most mastodon users are familiar with. nice work :-)

@Gargron @citrustwee I don't care for either poll option, but Follows & Followers is good

@Gargron @citrustwee "Manage follows" could fit and isn't exactly the worst thing

@Gargron @citrustwee Just the idea of "follows" is the term that I think best fits who you're following and who is following you

@Gargron You should have separate names for the managing followers and managing people you follow versions, and they should not appear *too* unified to the user (especially if you ever hope to allow this UI to be used to manage visibility/permissions of posts — Google+ did that and it was IMO a huge mistake on their part).

@Gargron Neither seem great. "Manage follows and followers" is clearer.

@Gargron Eugen have you considered "manage these ungrateful parasites who do not recognize my genius"? just throwing that one out there

@Gargron I'd say "Manage Subscriptions" and a toggle to choose following and followers individually. To my knowledge you can fedi with some blog systems/instance based software so technically everything in that list wouldn't necessarily be a user account.

@Gargron is there room for a happy medium with "manage relationships?" because to me "relationship manager" sounds like a crappy corporate title for when the company doesn't want to use the word "salesman"

@Gargron If recommend "subscription manager". If nothing else, "Relationship Manager" sounds like something which married people have to go through. Also, it sounds too corporate. 🙄

@Gargron

Maybe just "Manage Following/Followers"? relationship is accurate but adds more words to the interface; people already know what following and followers are, but "relationship" is a new (albeit easy) item to think about

(also like, just my take, but "manage subscriptions" and "relationship manager" sound a bit public-relations-y? maybe it's just me. and 'relationship manager' is also a job title in some areas, IIRC?)

@Gargron “Follow settings” seems simple.

Also: would love to be able to toggle whether I see someone’s boosts there. (Current UI for that is behind quite a few clicks IIRC.)
