Well crap. Timelines are delayed ON Mastodon.social from the DOS attack. hopefully it will catch up soon.

@Mrfunkedude I'm gonna be honest, I think people should stop using mastodon.social. That instance was getting large and now it's just unwieldy. The moderation is not exceptionally good and so some other instances defederate from it.

not that another influx is coming, you can see how a bigger instance, considered the "default" can introduce a big Point of Failure in times like this.

Mr. Funk E. Dude

@Catwoman69y2k I'm kind of on the fence about it. You're right about what you said, but I'm not convinced leaving is the solution either.

I think as Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse becomes more popular, you're going to start seeing larger instances. Someday mastodon.social may not even be one of the largest.

Before that happens I'm hoping some type of moderation solution can be found. I don't know what that will look like, but I think it's absolutely necessary.

@Mrfunkedude and that's just it. I don't know if the owners/admins ever intended mastodon.social to be moderated.

@Catwoman69y2k Well, let's not be hyperbolic. It IS moderated, just not as well or in a way that some would like. It can definitely do better.

Regardless, a solution needs to be found. I wish I knew what that looks like, but I'm optimistic.

@Mrfunkedude It wasn't hyperbolic. I just was stating that I didn't assume that there was intention to moderate. Nothing up to this point has ever come up from the mastodon.social mods, speaking up about anything related to direction or moderatorship.
