There’s a lot of takes in “why won’t people leave X platform”

And “why are people in new X platform’

that should be “why CAN’T some people leave x or y platform “

Mainstream is a toy for some. The poorer you are, the more you are trying to be independent of capitalism with no support?

The more you need platforms where people already are.

I know a lady who got solvent via social. A year later she still can't afford ads.

What do people exoect them to to? It's like telling disabled people to boycott Amazon, like Walmart is better.

As if the alternatives are affordable to people who have to pinch every penny.

You want people to stay off Threads & birdchan?

What's the alternative for them. It takes months or years to have a viable audience on other platforms.

Especially when mutual aid or talking about your store gets little traction.

Create the support first. And those of us who weren't talking about those people are part of the problem.

Look up erasure if you don't understand how that is part of the marginalization process.

@Tinu Yeah... I'm here cause I have online friends in tech that invited me. If I had to find it myself, I might not.

@Tinu Social media is also part of my job, too.
So I've investigated a few ways to stay in contact.
(in some ways twitter is still the easy one.

@Tinu 💯
It's gotten a little better but there are still gatekeepers who want their perfect little insulated Department 56 village where everyone is kindly and not a discordant word is spoken. A place where life issues of marginalized people are only discussed philosophically, like comparing wine vintages.

@Tinu
these folks are complicit in Twitter and Threads existence.

@Okanogen The problem remains: who isn’t. And where else is there for the unprivileged to go.
