I'm grateful to all these awesome Mastodon users who put their political/stressful content behind a CW.

Thank you so much for helping people deal.

You know instance admins can read your direct messages in the fediverse? Twitter and Facebook also can - and sometimes do - read your private messages, and they have infrastructure to comply with law enforcement requests. I'd love to see some end-to-end encryption built into Mastodon clients.

Message to all the non-anglophones:

Please toot in your language as public as you want. Let's share culture. I want to read all your toots.

Mastodon va avoir plus d'utilisateurs actifi que Google + en ce moment

I just tried to show a friend on the web, and realized how terribly overloaded it is! I'm gonna need to find an instance that I can easily log in to!

@Wikisteff Like with Twitter, but harder to take down as a whole

@Wikisteff this is also a social network, and not a private messaging app...

4 days in, and my personal feed is already awesome. @sarahjeong sharing a winning story about , @acw making pineapples trend on , and @munin hacking regular expressions in his instance.

Good times.

Takes someone into a dark alley.

Listen up you little punk. You are intelligent and filled with drive, you have kept your heart pure and compassionate, you will accomplish things that no one else would even think to do. You will remake this world in critical and incomparable ways and I am lucky as hell to have gotten to know you while you're still criminally undervalued by this world.

I understand and accept these new terms and conditions

First non-personal account certified on Mastodon : @numerama
Well done guys!

By default, we should probably assume that anything we post anywhere will be available for ever. It is 2017, after all.

About risk profile:

- Mastodon is like email because you can't delete federated toots
- Mastodon is like twitter in that Google's search bots index it, unless your admins robot.txt it away
- Mastodon is like being a teenager because the people that own your instance can see all your private stuff

Have a talk with your admin about their policies.

By default, assume everyone will be able to read your toots forever.

Federated social is great but we need to federate ALL THE THINGS: Wikipages, blogposts, comments, github, toots. Make one unified federated linked data space!

Like Tim Berners-Lee's original web, before they turned off write access.

I tried to make a post on the bird site and forgot that I don't have the 500 character limit, I'm starting to prefer the mastodon herd.

J'imagine l'avenir de Mastodon. Les universités auront leurs propre instance, tout comme les entreprises, pas besoin de compte certifié, suffit de faire une instance avec ton nom de domaine.

I was trying to map out the whole network using if anyone wants to help

The more I think about, the more I kind of like having multiple platforms for the same social media identity. It allows me to keep twitter for... well, exactly what it's good for:

Terse commentary and easy snark. Current affairs and outrage boosting.
Sustaining a loose affiliation with people in my line of work, and developments in that field.

Whereas here, of course, I can develop a parallel and expanded persona while not dissociating one from the other.

The medium is me.
