#Russia really has no clue who it picked a fight with
I am in awe of #Ukraine
This is not the big dumb bully from school picking on the scrawny kid who knows Jiu-Jitsu
This is the big dumb bully from school picking on the scrawny kid who happens to be Iron Man
It's the #evolution of #warfare
The whole world is watching keenly
Again, I am in awe, but it makes me deeply uneasy

@benroyce
I was watching a video earlier and today was a disaster for N.K. troops and Russian also .
They have no leadership and are being slaughtered.
I honestly don't understand why they don't defect...
I will never understand how anyone could just walk into a surefire death like they are.
because they are utterly brainwashed. they are fed constant lies. they are probably told all sorts of horrible things about ukrainians and what they do to defectors. when of course, the truth is it is the russians who are horrible to them
@jmcrookston @benroyce @palin
Yeah, we have to remember, with North Korea, and Putinist Russia, it's not so much loyalty as fear of consequences. Even trying to defect will be met with torture or execution, and successfully defecting puts your family at risk.
Smart defectors go MIA, faking their own deaths, but this involves getting captured without leadership knowing they surrendered.
@Raccoon @jmcrookston @benroyce @palin@mastodon.social
State terrorism or tyranny, take your pick. Depending on where you happen to live, If the capitalist oligarchy doesn’t get you, fascism or theocracy will.
if you commit a crime that they determine is sufficiently wrong (ie, #politics), they don't punish you in #NorthKorea
they punish you, your children, and your grandchildren
"three generations of punishment"
your "blood" is guilty
@benroyce Oh yeah, I forgot about the three generation thing. Absolutely right.
@benroyce Personally I do twenty generations because I am a professional tyrant but 3 is okay for amateurs, I suppose.
@benroyce sort of like in America for just being poor.
@benroyce @jmcrookston @palin@mastodon.social
Barbaric.
@benroyce @jmcrookston @palin@mastodon.social I'm by no means well informed on this, but it features pretty commonly in (south) Korean dramas set in historical times. I wouldn't be surprised if it was common throughout much of the old world, and just preserved by the most backwards evil regimes into modern times.
It's hard to say the extent, but a number of references are made to it by defectors, even going out EIGHT generations. But North Korea hasn't even existed for eight generations.
But yes, I wouldn't doubt the historical accuracy, nor the historical prevalence, nor the cruelty of North Korea, whatever the actual truth.
@benroyce @dalias @jmcrookston the “generations” thing is a poor translation (if it is even a translation error; i could not find a reference to eight generations in the cited source) but it is most likely degrees of kinship, like first cousin, second cousin and so on.

@phoenixgee @jmcrookston @palin
Yeah. It's like cannibalism or slavery or no rights for women, etc. An ancient scourge that still persists.
@benroyce @jmcrookston @palin ...and Americans (seemingly) voted for people with the exact same mindset....
@phoenixgee @jmcrookston @palin
Vast swaths of society are ignorant and indecent morons
@benroyce @jmcrookston @palin
Very Biblical.
@Nazani @benroyce @palin I have to arrange the names of the families to be avenged in my will, and ensure my descendants will carry it out, and also that the other family agrees to stick around and suffer it, so it's a bit of a logistical nightmare but I like to think 19 generations down they'll appreciate my work.
@Nazani oops this was supposed to be over here https://mastodon.social/@jmcrookston/113698320576382220
@jmcrookston Good luck, descendant compliance isn't what it used to be.
