@schestowitz@mastodon.technology "content marketing"

@brennen @schestowitz Linking to that HN discussion was so weird. Was the user who posted the story and then in the comments retracted it, Matt Asay himself, who thinks he is able to play some kind of mind games?

@clacke @schestowitz@mastodon.technology i'd find it easier to ignore this kind of predictable astroturfing without sentences as staggeringly tonedeaf as:

"Many of these developers have gone retro with Postgres. Bless them."

now that i think about it, yeah, i can give quite a bit of credence to "...companies run MongoDB in production and were somehow duped into doing so". pretty much how i feel about having written production code against such egregious shitware, anyhow.

@brennen @schestowitz

I was thinking the same thing.

> It’s hard to give credence to the view that tens of thousands of companies run MongoDB in production and were somehow duped into doing so, and keep using the database.

It's not hard at all. He said himself they spent 75% of their budget on marketing. And we all know how clueless IT management can be.

@schestowitz@mastodon.technology heck, i'll freely admit to having temporarily fallen for it as a dev. it had some appeal and i had coworkers pretty excited about it.

how anyone is _still_ falling for it is less clear to me, but then data stores where you'd be better off just using postgres ~90% of the time are hardly the only long con going in IT.
